November 7, 2009, 7 pm -- CARRIE NEWCOMER

Describing Carrie Newcomer as a singer-songwriter is a little like saying Noah was a boat-builder. So much goes unsaid when we fall to easy labels. One of the definitive voices of the Heartland, the Indiana native sings of the small joys and pains in life, emphasizing the little moments that are often taken for granted. Overall, she is not afraid to take on serious subjects, and does so with a healthy measure of good humor and self-awareness. For her, “songwriting is not about being clever, flashy or fancy, it is about telling a compelling story in language and music with elegance and clarity.”

December 12, 2009, 7 pm -- KRIS DELMHORST

Kris Delmhorst has parlayed a decade of successful cross country and trans-Atlantic touring into one of the most distinct voices in American music. With her latest recording,  Shotgun Singer, Delmhorst has trained that voice on a series of gracefully open lyrics and figures that transcend genre, ranging into the borderlands between indie-rock and folk. Adventurous, elegant, lucid, and haunting, the record is the work of a seasoned musician who has found a musical language, a means of expression, equal to her vision.

January 23, 2010, 7 pm -- LOU & PETER BERRYMAN

Lou and Peter Berryman are musical humorists who have delighted nationwide audiences for more than twenty years. Frequent comparisons to Tom Lehrer, Flanders and Swann, and Burns and Allen notwithstanding, these two are originals, blending Midwestern culture with intelligent observation in a whimsical and wonderfully accessible performance. They have produced twelve albums and three song books of their original and hilarious, quirky, yet oddly profound songs, and have toured the US and Canada to rave reviews. Berryman songs are being sung around the world, by a legion of professional musicians, including Peter, Paul & Mary, Peggy Seeger and Garrison Keillor, as well as shower singers everywhere.

February 6, 2010, 7 pm -- THE NIELDS
To the songwriter/musician who has neither burned, bailed nor sold out, there comes a time when he or she turns from writing about who they are in the current moment to writing about who they have always been, addressing head-on their roots, sources and influences. SISTER HOLLER, the newest and 14th career release from Nerissa and Katryna Nields, is a "roots album," but with a difference. Rather than simply reinterpret or re-record the music what brung 'em, the sisters from Western Massachusetts, have decided in Sister Holler to retool, assimilate and flat out burgle the music they grew up with to create something new. They tell the listener right up front that they're even going to lift entire lines from some of the best songs ever written, and then they do it, right before your very ears. The result is a delightful oxymoron of songs simultaneously familiar and surprising.

March 6, 2010, 2 and 7 pm -- SWITCHBACK

For over two decades, the musical partnership of Brian FitzGerald and Martin McCormack, known as Switchback, has been entertaining audiences around the world with their unique American Roots music blended with Celtic Soul.  We welcome them just in time to celebrate St. Patrick's Day a bit early, with a general audience concert at 7 pm, and a special children's show at 2 pm.

March 27, 2010 -- BROOKS WILLIAMS

Brooks Williams is a blues singing, guitar picking, bottleneck slide playing certified road warrior who has toured continuously for over twenty-one years. His unique combination of traditional and original music inspired Dirty Linen magazine to call Brooks Williams one of "America's musical treasures." His guitar skills won him a place on the Top 100 Acoustic Guitarists list, in company with the likes of Michael Hedges, Chet Atkins, Leo Kottke, Doc Watson, and David Bromberg, to name a few.
