Healthcare Provider to Close in Macomb

The dental services provided by Eagleview Community Health System in Macomb will come to an end April 11, and the medical services will end June 27.

“We’ve had to make these cuts kicking and screaming,” said Melinda Whiteman, Eagleview Executive Director. “We’re very saddened that we have to do this.”

Whiteman said the Eagleview facilities in Stronghurst and Oquawka will remain open. Those have been in place longer, and Eagleview has received federal grant money for serving Medicaid and low income patients in Henderson County.

Macomb School Supt Search Update

The Macomb School District superintendent search appears to be approaching the finish line but it’s not quite completed.

Board of Education member Jude Kiah said there are a few items to work out still beyond just the contract.

“We would like it to be that. But there may be additional things that need to be taken care of outside of fiscal or monetary issues,” Kiah said.

Kiah declined to reveal what those other issues are.

Making Higher Education Affordable to All

As state funding for colleges and universities declines in Illinois, the lieutenant governor said the schools need to find ways to remain accessible to a wide range of students.

The problem is multi-faceted. The state legislature has cut support for universities in recent years. Those schools then raise tuition. That means more students rely on financial aid, but the state has been cutting that too.
