A new mobile app offers users a modern look at Abraham Lincoln.

The “Abe-App” was released February 12 -- Lincoln's birthday -- by the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation.

It includes an “Abe-A-Day” fact, pictures of artifacts on display in the museum, and trivia questions accompanied by sound effects from Lincoln's time --- a recording of his office clock serves as the quiz's timer.

The Foundation's Phyllis Evans said the app will make it easier for today's students to learn about the 19th Century.

Researcher Uncovers Lincoln Assassination Document

Helena Iles Papaioannou, working for the Papers of Abraham Lincoln Project, found the report of the first doctor to treat Lincoln after he was shot at Ford's Theater in Washington D.C. in April, 1865.

The paper by Dr. Charles Leale was in records of the Surgeon General in the National Archives in Washington.

The Papers of Abraham Lincoln Project is dedicated to finding and saving all documents written by or about the 16th president during his lifetime.

Learning Something New at Museums of the Tri States

The 35th Annual International Museum Day is being celebrated on Friday, May 18, 2012. To mark the occasion, the WIUM/WIUW news staff visited some of the museums of the tri states.

The Old Lincoln Courtroom & Museum in Beardstown

This red brick, two-story building can be found at Third and State on Beardstown's downtown square. The museum is part of the Looking for Lincoln Heritage Trail. In fact, Beardstown boasts seven wayside exhibit sites as part of the trail.

Songs of Freedom, Hope & Destiny

The McDonough Choral Society will be joined by a chamber ensemble in a world premiere performance on Monday, April 16.

The composition Songs of Freedom, Hope, and Destiny was commissioned by the choral group to celebrate its 10th anniversary. Western Illinois University School of Music professor Randall Faust spent three years writing the piece.

The work combines original music with text taken from 19th Century Illinois literature, including words penned by poet John Howard Bryant and President Abraham Lincoln.
