Investigation of Congressman Schock Continues

A congressional investigation group is recommending the US House Ethics Committee further review an alleged fundraising violation involving Congressman Aaron Schock (R-IL).

A report from the Office of Congressional Ethics said Schock allegedly sought a $25,000 donation to help fellow Representative Adam Kinzinger in a primary election.

The report said Schock’s request was five times more than what Super PACs are allowed to raise.

Congressman Aaron Schock shouldn’t have it both ways. The two-term Republican from Illinois’ 18^th District has been mentioned as a possible GOP candidate for governor in 2014, and after last month’s election losses, the 31 year old has been quoted as saying his party should move toward the middle of the road.

Although Schock was easily re-elected, his opponent was neither well-funded nor strong, and within Schock’s district, 8 of 10 counties between Peoria and the Quad Cities voted for President Obama.

Schock Says Provision Prevents Medicaid Reform

Illinois Congressman Aaron Schock (R-18) says a provision of the Affordable Care Act prevents Illinois from enacting serious Medicaid reform. That provision prevents states from reducing benefits or tightening requirements to qualify for Medicaid.

The House has passed a measure to repeal that provision.

Schock says, “They (federal government) have Illinois trapped right now in a situation where they can't reduce their budget deficit, reduce their spending.”

Schock Accused of Ethics Violation

A report from a watchdog group said the campaign committee for Congressman Aaron Schock (R-IL) reimbursed him for stays at a hotel in Greece and a luxury resort in Miami.

Schock's campaign committee reportedly paid him more than $100,000 for such expenses during the 2010 election.

The study was issued by “Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics." Director Melanie Sloan said “What Aaron Schock did crossed the line.”
