Announcements for 4/20/13 - The Boil Order for Macomb HAS BEEN LIFTED

The National Weather Service flood warning on the Lamoine River at Colmar remains in effect until Monday evening. At 9:45am Saturday, the stage was at 27.4 feet and falling, the flood stage is 20 feet.

There are over 100 items up for bid, including art and handcrafted pieces, sports-related clothing and collectibles, gift certificates, event tickets and more.

All proceeds go toward the costs of broadcasting quality audio programming for the visually impaired in the Tri-states area. Online auction winners can pick up their items from 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday, Nov. 12 -Friday, Nov. 16, or by appointment. Bidders outside of Macomb but within the AIS listening area may have items delivered at no cost. Shipment of items outside the listening area can be arranged as well.

NPR News is offering a live chat for the final presidential debate between President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney. This final debate is being moderated by Bob Schieffer, Chief Washington Correspondent for CBS News and Moderator of Face the Nation. The debate is taking place at Lynn University in Boca Raton, FL. The chat will be open during the day Monday for comments prior to the debate, and will remain open for live comments during the debate. Make your comments, or just follow the conversation, below.

The generous listeners of Tri States Public Radio pledged more than $56,000 during our Fall 2012 Membership Drive! Thank you to the hundreds of people who did their part to support high quality news and information programming as well as classical, jazz and folk music for southeast Iowa, west central Illinois and northeast Missouri. While the number is impressive, it is a little short of our goal of $66,500, but there is still time to pledge here.

Consolidation is Still an Option for Districts

Despite the failure of the proposed consolidation of Abingdon, Avon and the Bushnell-Prairie City school districts, consolidation in some form is still on the table.

The “Just Vote No” committee in the B-PC district was the most vocal group opposed to the measure. They opposed including Abingdon because of the length of bus rides for students who would have gone to junior high school there. Many members support a consolidation with Avon.

Voters have not had a chance to decide on that option.

Hospital Will Add New Specialty

McDonough District Hospital's biennial surveys have shown district residents would like to see an ear, nose and throat specialist on staff.

Director of Public Relations and Funding John Maguire said the hospital will meet that need next year with the arrival of Dr. Jeff Sparks. He will join the hospital in the summer of 2013 after the completion of his residency.

Maguire said Sparks will bring an excellent mix of experience and the latest medical expertise.
